Google Cloud published its "AI agent trends 2026" report. The core idea is "the agent leap": the move from simple prompts to autonomous AI agents that orchestrate complex end-to-end processes semi-autonomously. It is called the defining opportunity of 2026 for enterprises that care about speed-to-value.
The report highlights five themes: agents for every employee, for every workflow, for customers, for security, and for scale. It singles out the Agent2Agent (A2A) and Agent Payments Protocol (AP2), which make it easier to connect agents to one another and to enterprise systems — that is, multi-agent systems where several agents work together.
