The same AI can give either a meaningless or a precise answer — it all depends on how the task is phrased. Prompt engineering is the skill of clearly explaining to the model exactly what you need.
Give context and a role
Specify the role the AI plays and who the result is for. "You are a sales manager, reply to the customer politely and briefly" works better than just "reply".
Be specific
Instead of "write text" — "write 3 short product descriptions up to 200 characters for an online store". Clear boundaries give predictable results.
Add examples
One or two examples of the desired format improve quality more than long instructions. Show what a good answer looks like.
A good prompt isn’t magic — it’s a clear technical brief written in plain language.
Check and refine
- Break complex tasks into steps;
- Ask the AI to pose clarifying questions;
- Iterate: adjust the prompt based on results.
For business agents these principles are baked into the scenarios once — and then work automatically.
